Cooking with Bitters: Homemade Maple Granola Recipe

We've been making batches of this lately. While it does seem unusual to add bitters to granola, we think you will be happily surprised! A really great snack, unbelievably tasty.

Maple Granola & Bitters Recipe

1 Tablespoon "DRAM Hair of the Dog" Bitters<

-1 cup buckwheat

-3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats

-1 cup raw sunflower seeds, hulled

-1/2 cup millet

-1 1/4 cup almonds

-3/4 cup pure maple syrup

-1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil

-1/4 cup packed light-brown sugar

-1 teaspoon coarse salt


Heat oven to 250 degrees. Combine oats, sunflower seeds, buckwheat, almonds, syrup, olive oil, sugar, bitters and salt in a large bowl and mix well. Spread granola mixture in an even layer on a baking sheet. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for around 45min.  Stir every 10-15 minutes to ensure the granola gets evenly toasted.

Remove granola from oven and season with a pinch of salt to taste. Let cool completely before serving. Store unused portion in an airtight container for up to 1 month.
